Hey! What is this? I'm under friendly fire!!! :-) There is a lot hidden behind the statement I made. I'm not an artist in real life. One of these days I will take a drawing course and learn how to draw by hand. Just like scribes used to copy texts and sometimes embellished the copy I can copy pictures from paper to screen. The scribes were not considered authors, so for the same reason, I don't consider myself an artist. The vast majority of my ASCII works are just copies of pictures that I transferred to screen using a grid technique (more on this in a later post). I have modified GIFs too, but that is very time consuming. This is why I came up with the grid system. It speeds up the transfer from paper to screen without using a scanner. So basically you could say that I am a human scanner. Alternatively you could say that I am a meticulous, hard-headed, quality minded amateur that likes playing around with ASCII art. If that's what you mean by "artist", then I fit the bill. :-)
