Well, the original MPEG looks better, has sound, more colors and is
smaller. But thanks.

Yes.

Step-by-step-instructions to making your own Matrix-trilerish-
ansi-animations.

First you need
*some kind of moviefile
*some program to extract its frames into single imagefiles
*some program to scale and convert the files to png
*the program png2ansi, available at http://www.saunalahti.fi/~wheany/

**NOTE** If you have downloaded png2ansi before, download it anyway,
since this trick only works with the new version.

1) Extract the frames.

2) Scale the frames to a maximum of (screen_width-1) * (screen_height-1)
and convert to png. Use short (= 8+3) filenames. Example: fram0001.png

3) Go to a dos-window and type "dir *.png >dir_list.txt"

4) Open the file dir_list.txt in a text-editor that has macros.

5) Record a macro that leaves only the filenames in the file, nothing
more. The file should look like this:
fram0001.png
fram0002.png
fram0003.png
fram0004.png

and so on.

6) save the file and got to the dos-window and type
"sort dir_list.txt >dir_sort.txt"

7)Now open the file dir_sort.txt and record a macro that adds "png2ansi"
to the beginning of each line and ">>movie.txt" to the end.

Now the file looks like this:

png2ansi fram0001.png >>movie.txt
png2ansi fram0002.png >>movie.txt
png2ansi fram0003.png >>movie.txt
png2ansi fram0004.png >>movie.txt

and so on.

8) Change the first line to
"png2ansi fram0001.png >movie.txt" (notice the single
greater-than-sign), then save this file as movie.bat

9) Go back to the dos-window and type "movie.bat", after a while (or a
long while) the movie is ready, now type "type movie.txt"

THAT'S IT!

If you want some kind of progress-meter, add a line
"echo frame number <number>" every 200 lines to the movie.bat.
