Epinephrine (adrenalin)
Epinephrine relaxes the smooth muscles in the brochioles, which would
help in the case of asthma. Epi also is a vasocontrictor, and therefore
counters the drop in blood pressure in cases of shock. Actually, the
blood _volume_ drops, because histamine causes wide-spread vasodilation
and blood begins to pool in the capillary beds. Blood plasma also flows
out into tissues, causing swelling. When the epi hits, the capilaries
constrict, limiting the flow of plasma and forcing blood back into
circulation.
