Are you talking about in Unix?
% cat file | sed 's/[(space)(tab)]*$//g'
Instead of (space), put a space character
Instead of (tab), put a tab character
This command says, replace a space or a tab (the characters in the [] brackets),
any number of occurences (the *),
which precede the end-of-line (the $),
and replace it with nothing.
