I once wrote a DME macro on the Amiga that enabled a sort of airbrush
painting mode with the mouse. It used some kind of dot density sequence
like [.,:;*%], and each time the mouse passed over one of the characters
with the button pressed it upped the 'density' by one in the current and
immediately surrounding characters.

The thing is, it wasn't actually any good. If you wanted to write a proper
version, it'd need to know the current position of the mouse pointer
within each character cell for a pencil/lindedraw mode.
