    0 .. 32  unprintable control-codes
   32 .. 126 ascii char set
  127   backspace+delete
  128 .. 255 extended char set (ansi)

all machinery set to 'western' fixed-width type-font should display
the ascii char set (32..126) in a very similar way
the remaining chars or anything else is unlikely
for example VT100 vs ANSI(DOS/OEM)
