I don't like to jump to conclusions, but I'll assume when you say "online game" you mean online BBS game. In which case you'd want VT-100 / ANSI X3.64 specs, which aren't public domain, but are available at... Finding documentation on VT100 is extremeley difficult, speaking from experience... But you can get a pretty good idea about how "ANSI-BBS" emulation works if you download product.zip and read up. It has tutorials on ANSI screen codes, and even "ANSI music" and "ANSI bombs", remember those? Okay probably not.
