         They would be counter to the charter of
the newsgroup, but probably would be more acceptable
than the off-color language and subject matter of
some of the posts here.

         But who would be able to view ansi pics,
computers today use .......... windows.


         Anyone interested in ansi, and willing
to set up ansi.sys in DOS can get lots of example
files by doing a search for my ansi-ascii drawing
program name on www.google.com

        It is a free zip file of a DOS program
that writes an animated ANSI file in real time,
and then writes a static ASCII file on exiting.

        The user can either use pure ASCII, or
use the IBM high character set.

        The zip file was uploaded about 10 years
ago, and allows using the cursor keys to draw
any character really fast.
        The character to be drawn is selected 
from a dynamic list of all available characters
on line 25 that is movable by using F-9 and F-10
function keys.
        This drawing mode is selected by turning
on the SCROLL LOCK light.

        It is a self contained program with
several help screens brought up by pressing
the ALT-H, ALT-O for options, and ALT-F for
font selection.
        It has a number of built-in large
fonts for BBS Sysop use, a couple of which
can be set to use any character to construct
the letters, and can therefore create large
ASCII letters if ASCII characters are selected.

       I don't remember if the version supports
imbedding ANSI music in the file or not, but
it has some fast ways to select color and the
characters to draw with just by a keypress
when the cursor is on a color and/or character
desired.
       There are color palettes with hundreds
of possible colors if the foreground and the
background colors are set and charcters 176,
177, and 178 are used (ANSI ONLY).
       These colors can be selected from the
full-screen palettes by placing the cursor
on the desired color and a key pressed.
  
       Some of the ANSI artists did spectacular
work considering the restriction of 80 x 23
for the usual static display.
       I have pics by Star Trek characters
and movie and music stars that are fantastic
for such a limited resolution.

       But Usenet and windows places severe
restraints on the use of the Escape Character,
but it is possible, but nobody can view the
result in windows in real time (that I know of).

       So on Usenet and in windows, the "choice"
is   A  S  C  I  I.
