I personnaly use Emacs, both under Windows 98 and under Unix-based
system. Though it takes time to handle correctly (many key-sequences to
remember), this program is a must-have for Ascii animation : it allows
"free-hand" drawing, copy/cut/paste of rectangles of text, and has a
rudimentary macro system to automate boring tasks.
