Close.  On a VT100, you might well be unable to use Ctrl-Q (or Ctrl-S)
due to flow control.  In that case, do a M-x enable-flow-control (or
add the line
  (enable-flow-control)
to your ~/.emacs file), which substitutes Ctrl-\ for Ctrl-S and Ctrl-^
for Ctrl-Q.

This is new to Emacs 19 -- if you're on Emacs 18, holler for an
upgrade.

Oh yeah.  For you emacs-less folks, vi has a similar thing with Ctrl-V
instead of Ctrl-Q.
