: Looking closer at you question i see that you were asking what : the word "katakana" ment in english.I _think_ it translates directly : to "type of alphabet" as apposed to "hiragana" bieng "beginning alphabet" : and i would be interested to see how close i am..maybe critter can : confirm or deny my guesses... Katakana: square alphabet Hiragana: round alphabet And the "r" instead "l" thing is because there is no "l" in japanese.
