i mostly use Notepad.exe supplied with Ms.Windows
other tools i use are 'Acidraw' and 'Webfilp'
and occasionally 'Textpad' and for colouring i use
Meph's editor4

i have tried 'brief' ... there are many of that style
... perhaps you can find a programme to slow your machine

..not seen it ... the editors i use for programming are
'vi' and 'emacs' on unix and 'pfe' on win95/nt

i prefer 'emacs' to 'vi' but 'vi' comes as standard on unix these
days and i've worked with it for so long that it doesn't bug me
