Hello Richard! I don't want to start a flame or anything, but you are missing the point. Art doesn't have any specific purpose and doesn't need one to exist. Art lives from its own creations and destructions. The question of what ascii-art is used for, is simply the wrong question. It is easier to question when, how and in what context is ascii-art used. But the existenciality of (ascii) art is a phylosophical question its. In any case, if you still need an answer, this is my simplest one: pleasure. Victor
