Hi there,

What programs are available for converting gray-level images
(in GIF or other formats) to ASCII ? I'd like to have something
that does not use the pbm-package.
I tried writing my own program but I could not determine the
right ASCII characters to use to map from shades of gray to ASCII.

I'd appreciate any help on this. Thanks.
