AVI2ASCII ??

Having troubled some of you directly, I now try to solve all my problems
via your newgroups.....

Being very new to ascii::art I (as indicated above) am looking for an
AVI2ASCII converter
[and eventually  ASCII2AVI :: so maybe I am looking for an AVI2ASCII2AVI
converter...
..this may look a little bit apart from pure ascii-art but I hope you
don't really care.]

I am not interested in notepad-created ascii-art (as I think are most of
you) but desperately looking for something like GIF2ASCII, just for
moving pictures.
I am a little bit into programming so I would no mind if I had to do
parts of th stuff myself, but since I do know nothing about Video
formats, I cannot do all the work alone (withouth spending my next few
years on this project)
I'm into real-time music processing, so I would appreciate any solution
that could perform in realtime (I have access to SGI and alpha computers
so cpu-load should be no real problem) but I do not really care about
this

I just would be glad if there was *something* around, that could help
me...

I remember a while back some people here were talking about some kind of web
cam or program that outputted to ASCII, Krogg and Veronica maybe?

GIF to ASCII has already been done, I believe.  I have a PGM2ASCII
program, which could be adapted to other input formats.  If you want try
adding to my code, see my homepage and look for "p2a".  If people are
interested, I can upgrade this to work on BMP's.

I think your difficulty would be AVI2GIF or AVI2PGM or somesuch!  Once
you've got AVI's to a still-frame format, you can turn to ascii art.  Who
knows how to decode AVI?  Maybe ask some animation newsgroup...

Ascii-Quake converts the imageoutput from quake to a asciiimage on the fly .. 
It could probably be fitted to do the same with a webcam or aviplayer.

BTW - It's a linuxprogram

:) No, not that one. If I remember right, someone was talking about a trade
show where they saw something like that being demonstrated. Prehaps it was a
java-related thing.

One of my friends in collegde had a program for Linux that was called
SVGASCII or something like that, it worked by interpreting the info sent
to the video card and switching it to ascii. It worked pretty well,
could play quake with it. :) It didn't output to a file though.

Im also interested... AVI2ASCII or QT2ASCII or MPEG2ASCII
or whatever would be nice
It could also be a realtime application, to view the movies in
ASCII-Mode with the option to save every frame.
Later, you can put it all together as you like... and with every
ASCII-Player you wish to use.
That would be really cool...
