This is a great ng!  I have been lurking, I don't have the ability to do this
myself.

This reminded me of a question.  Where did the name MOBY DICK come from?  I
never read the book, but watch the miniseries and I didn't catch the source
of the name.

Well, I just happened to have my "Brewer's  Dictionary of
Phrase and Fable" right next to me...
"MOBY DICK-- the great white whale who is the "hero" of
Herman Melville's novel named after him, (1851).  He is
pursued by Captain Ahab, whose one aim is to kill him.  In the
end both whale and man are destroyed.  Moby Dick is regarded
 as representing the elusive reality of life, which in the end
brings only death.  The whale and his name were apparently 
based on a real whale, "Mocha Dick", which caused loss of life to
whalers and damage to whaling ships in the 1830s and 1840s."
