Dear friends and people whom I have annoyed over the past two years.
I am pleased to announce that my gf and I will marry shortly after the
first of the year. She and I dated for a couple of years in college
(1971-73), but she left me. "I had a dream long since of Love's wild
glow - Locks, mignonette and myrtle - all it teaches of sweet, red
kisses and of bitter speeches; Sad airs of sadder songs - long, long

Here is a picture from then, when she sprained her ankle while hiking
and I had to carry her (view w/ fixed-width font such a courier).

The artist got my broken nose right, but she was and is much skinnier.
We had not seen each other for many, many years. Sometimes, late at
night, I had thoughts of her - something wistful, something I put out

She and I ran into each other on the internet in early 1998. At that
point, I broke down under the realization that I was living the wrong
life, and I begged god to let me go back and fix things. "He alone
knows what love is who loves without hope." - Friedrich von Schiller
I started having vivid dreams about her. One was that we would not be
together in millenia having odd numbers, and that we would be together
in millenia having even numbers. I started a very careful and confused
campaign to get her back into my life - all by email, often
supplemented by ascii art - usually to illustrate the things we

Also, I employed a constantly changing set of sigs. "There's a kind of

Our honeymoon will be in Oaxaca in February. She has been only to
coastal resorts. Many years ago, I used to travel around the interior
hitchhiking or, later, living in my beetle - with the interior
converted into a sort-of-sleeping-van. So, I think I can show her some
things about Mexico.
We will have a reception in April or May when the rainy season ends -
somewhere outdoors in one of the parks near Oakland, CA.

want to say I am very happy for you. :-)
Originally I really wished to make you a pair of Chinese bride & bridegroom ASCII (I mean, a wedding couple wearing Chinese wedding gown & 'tuxedo'), but owing
to my apprenticeship in ASCII-art, I am just incapable of doing so. So instead I have made you this:

So you may wonder what the heck that is...well, that is (supposed to be, anyway) the Chinese letter/word that is exclusively used to denote "a wedding event".
This word is actually composed of a more general word, namely

which means "happy" or "happiness", and by concatenating two copies of this above word, you get that special word about wedding. In fact, if you go to any
chinese restaurant, pretty often you can see this word, made into 3-D and painted in golden, hanging on the wall near the dragons. I hope you know what I mean.

As for everyone else, today's Chinese class is over and you are now dismissed.
