Do you guys remember old ANSII graphics in computer games??

I know that you can view ANSII [.ans] art in Internet Explorer.

How on earth do you make ANSII graphics, does anybody know? Is it litterally
raw-coding an image?

Get a program like TheDraw or ACiDDraw.

Nibbles ! :)

AFAIK you can't - But you can view HTML coloured ascii-art.
If I'm wrong please tell me how you view it.

It's just the text with ANSI colour escape codes.
Use a ANSI drawing program to colour the graphics - for drawing the artwork I
suggest JavE , but it can't colour the images because Markus (the programmer)
feels it makes it too easy to draw nice pictures and the art part therefore is
overlooked.
I disagree.
It's also tweaked for the ascii charset only .. and not the extended DOS charset
that many ansi-games used

I got the program, from www.thuglife.org, but it doesn't seem to work,
neither does the viewer, it comes up with the error message, this is not a
32bit application.

Should it work with win98? or does it have to be run through dos?
if so how!?

Your right, I thought I could at the following url
http://magneticm.ice.org/ansi/ice/

it seems the links open the original .ans through a cgi bin, which decodes
the the script and shows them as .png files.

good though :)

the artist should have the option, I can see where he's comming from it
takes the rawness away from the image and could leave a confused mess, but I
still say let the artist decide and the public can take it from there - good
or bad.

You can also view them in DOS (or at a prompt) when you have the ANSI.SYS
installed (one line in your config.sys). Then simply use 'type
<filename.ans>' and you got it. I once wrote a program which generated
running text that way. You could pipe it to a file and using type it started
runnig again ;)

depending on your news reader (and font choice maybe) those "alt characters"
(nonascii) will not show up, or will show up as something else.

WAIT... there is a program on the Windows2000 CD that is ment for running
OLD Programs on Windows2000 they let you set up an environment for your
programs. So you can have Win98, WinNT SP3/4/5, Win95

As your posting does not declare a charset, it depends on the default
charset people choose for their newsreader (ISO-8859-1 and ISO-8859-15
display it the right way).

Same applies to your From: line.

You should enable MIME Encoding and 7-bit-MIME-headers in your
newsreader to ensure everybody displays your posting in the same
charset - as long as his newsreader understands it.
