I was going to respond to this anyway, but since someone made a reference to me... "Yes, it is an oldwive's tale created by hoomuns. It goes back to the barbaric days of greggil religion. Virgins were considered untainted sacrifices fit for gods. Virginity was sometimes required to become a shaman or priestess or whatever, because they thought it enhanced natural magic abilities, that might be dissipated through you-know. Back then, some greggils thought their god came as or sent a monster to destroy their crops and cattle as punishment and they had to make a sacrifice to appease him/her/it. Supposedly, the god accepted the sacrifice by the monster eating the virgin as in the myth of Andromeda. Add one opportunist dragon and voil. It's kept alive because many female greggils find something appealing about the concept, in fantasy if not necessarily in practice.

Especially after you shell them and spread on a little dragon sauce before you roast them. BTW, I'm preparing to put put a copy of the dragon cook book, if anyone wants a copy. I know it's been out of "print" since about 1100, but I still have my families copy. >(Reminded of a PD Breeding-Black picture, I remain....) %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% LURK the STEALTH DRAGON :} Purveyor of fine beverage containment devices with custom graphic images. Humans are currently the fifth fattest creatures on the planet. That's more fat than your average pig! On behalf of all of us that put so much work into the PPP (Princess Protection Plan) I resent that slur. We put a lot of gold and time into resettling both virgins and princesses. Of all of them the princesses, for the most part were the most ungreatful of the bunch too. All that "This bed is too hard. The food is terrible. I want to go hooome." If it hadn't been for my protectors oath, I would have sent most of them back. In all those centuries, only two were greatful for being kept alive. Truthfully, I owe my surviving the hero spell this long to the children of one. He studied long and hard to change it for me. Besides, I always liked Knights better. They had a higher "iron" content. > It's kept alive because many female greggils find something appealing about >the concept, in fantasy if not necessarily in practice. Not the ones _I_ had to deal with. Sheesh, they way they would carry on. That's why I got stuck with getting them ready for their new lives. _I_ couldn't be seen, so _I_ was less "threatening." %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% LURK the STEALTH DRAGON :} Purveyor of fine beverage containment devices with custom graphic images.
