How to attach ASCII art perfectly as a signature in Gmail?

The only way would be if you can include html and the <tt> and <pre>
tags in you email.

When composing with their "Rich Formatting" mode you can
select the "Courier New" font.  They already preserve
whitespace in their HTML mail by using   entities,
and preserve linebreaks with <br> tags. It is by no means
perfect, but it usually works well enough.

However, they set their fonts using spans with CSS in
the style attributes rather than using font tags, so
some very old HTML mail readers that don't know CSS
may not show the right font. (like netscape mail 3 or
something; probably not a real issue.)

People whose mail clients don't support HTML should get
the plaintext version most of the time, where the ASCII
art will work fine (assuming they have a fixed-width
font set, of course (which most text-only mail clients
default to, fortunately)).

I would also either pad it with two spaces on the left or
ensure that no lines start with spaces, as some mail clients
like to truncate single spaces at the beginnings of lines or
do other funny things, especially with "HTML email".

SO BASICALLY, using gmail's wysiwig interface to select
the "Courier New" font should theoretically work pretty well
for sending ASCII art to 99% of mail clients built after 1997
