colourised ascii

Aaaargh!! I need help!
I've been colourising my ascii, and in the new browser I'm using it looks
fine. BUT when my fiancee tried the page on a real computer, in Netscape,
it showed up as a page of muddled ascii in proportional font.
I've had a look at the source code for some other colour pages, but you all
know how utterly useless I am at HTML, so as far as I could see I'm not
doing anything wrong. Pfft! :) Do I only have to use the pre tag, or is
there another tag that I have to include to keep the colour AND the fixed
font?
Hmm.. I have the feeling I'm sounding more than just a little bit blonde!
:)
I really don't have a clue, and nor does Robbie. :-} The test page
uploaded already at:
http://www.xs4all.nl/~klr/colour1.html
If anyone has the time or the inclination, could they possibly have a look
and see what gapingly obvious and stupid faults I'm making this time?! :-)
Thanks in advance.
*hugs*
Hayley

You start your art with a pre tag, which is good, but you immediatly follow it with a /font tag, which is bad, because it seems to close the fixed-width font you opened with pre, and continue in the usual, proportional, font. Here's an example (I hope your newsreader doesn't interpret this as html): wrong: <PRE> </FONT><FONT COLOR="#FF00FF">,v. right: <PRE> <FONT COLOR="#FF00FF">,v. I removed the additional /font tags for you, and put it on http://fmf.ml.org/~shimrod/asciiart/colour1.html It looks fine in netscape 4.x (the old one didn't) Greetz, -- _,-'/-'/ , - . '-. ,- .. I'm not much for technical things-- I'm not sure where the problem might lie... but there's got to be something wrong at that point.. Well I've used the copy shimrod uploaded, and hopefully that works. If it does, I'm going to be a happy bunny, coz that means I can spend lots of time colouring in! :-) Thanks for the help herman! :) -Hayley

Remember, ages ago, when my ascii gallery and original copy of the FAQ got munged up... The problem there was erronous and extraneous HTML tags placed by my (now nuked) web editor, WebExpress. I think theres some extraneous </FONT> tags there. Advice: Never use Microvision WebExpress... ever... ok? You can still see little remnants of it all over Bungle & Mart`s Weird, Wonderful World....... I`ll clean it all up one day. |\/| _..__|_o._ /\_|_| o._ _ mart.atkins@-- | |(_|| |_|| | /--\|_|<|| |_> --bigfoot.com
