An intriguing idea, but I fear not. For one thing, what IS Unicode?
Last week, they still hadn't decided what all the characters would
be, and are accepting suggestions. Some of the characters
under "investigation", are things like Klingonese, and Elvish.

Probably never as much. These days with ISO 8859-1 being the standard
for Web browsers and the Web being everywhere one might consider using
these symbols in one's art as well. But in browsers you can already
integrate graphics through images. That is how it will be with GUIs
capable of displaying Unicode, too.

If you want to do it as a hobby, feel free. It'll probably not have
any useful application, though, like the ascii-art flowcharts in the
RFC-documents.

If you do something for dumb text terminals the safest bet is do stick
to ascii. Modern standards for modern displays have rendered graph-
ics-thru-text contortions obsolete, though.

: Probably never as much. These days with ISO 8859-1 being the standard
ISO 8859-2 to 8 for central and eastern Europe, dependant on country,
KOI-8R for Russia, and Japonesee charsets as well. World does not end
at latin and modified latin environments :-)

For me, this will catch as soon as on considerable amount of
machines will be system capable of displaying unicode properly.
I don't know of any such an OS tooday.
This may even speed-up introduction of this standard to
everyday life. With over 60 tousand characters it would be
fun composing new one-liners for example :-)

Cool.

Now, what - exactly - is anyone supposed to do with that?
I dunno... It's all neat, but I just can't see Unicode
taking over anything, except Rivendell.

They have long decided on all important characters. What is left is
expansion space for if/when further characters are to be included.

Elvish/Tengwar is in: characters E000 to E07F:

Come on, with a linelenght of 80 chars you would only have
2.08158643893E385 different possibilities. That's not enought to last
two weeks!

All right, I'm expecting from you a collection of 100 most interesting
one-liners no later than three weeks after unicode art
newsgroup comes to life :-)

Naeh, I've done that already, but I'm not going to show them to you. If
I did, where would the fun be?

My current challenge is making the 2500 most interesting four-liners.
I've got 673 already.
