Crediting alt.ascii-art peeps

Is there an accepted usenet standard for crediting y'all if I use 
something you made in a post?  I have done it before and usually I post a 
google link to your original post saying "Courtesy of: person's name."

If it is for personal use and you are going to link it then I would
prefer just subbing my signature for a link to my web page:
<a href="http://asciipr0n.com/fp">:F_P:</a>

That way people can find me if they want to.  Others may have other
things in mind.  Which is why it is always best to contact the person
and ask them if you can use it.

If my art is going to be "published", ie it will be 'content' on a
'comercial' site then I want to be contacted before it is done so that
I can say yes or no.  I don't want one of my works being used to
promote evil orginizations with twisted goals like the KKK, Democratic
Party or the many others like them.

And if there are no initials, please ask the poster who created the art and
add the appropriate attribution.  Asking the artist for permission to use
their art is always the best way to go - it keeps you honest, and it gives
the artist an acknowledgement that their work was appreciated.

Will keep that in mind.  It's usally kind of random though.  Another thing 
is that sometimes I find it in the Google archives and the person posted 
maybe once 7 years ago... Could still at least try to e-mail them.

'Tis a shame that Google doesn't have an ascii image archive...

I would say that FP's advise on commercial use applies, you should show due
diligence in finding the author.  If it is only personal use; try, but
leave it as is if you can't find the author - do not insinuate that the art
was created by you. Common courtesy is expected in most cases.
