Very true.  Plus, it burns out your monitor faster.

On the other hand, I design most of my images to be viewed in black on white
 with the intention that they'll be printed up rather than just viewed
 on-screen.  For the same reason, I use a non-standard pixel ratio
 since the pixel ratio on a printer is closer to a 80/50 screen size
 than the standard 80/25.
Another reason I prefer to work in black on white is that it's easier to
 achieve effective shading in black on white and effective shading and
 tone-blocking is very important in more complex ASCii art.
