Siegessaule; reflections on it

Siegessaule; reflections on it

This beautiful statue came to my mind recently. And I had seen it for
the very
first time in 1999 when I went to Europe. It was one of the delights of
my
trip in Europe for I never knew such a object existed. For some reason
the
Germans seem to downplay this statue. But the artistic beauty of this
statue
is one of the finest ever produced.

But I was trying to visualize Siegessaule in my mind recently and my
mind
was playing tricks on me for I had thought that when I saw Siegessaule
in
1999 that she had a sword and not a wreath. But I suppose it was that
staff
that tricked me into thinking it was a sword. Or, more likely it was the

Russian huge statue that does have a sword.

Can someone please tell me the name of the Russian huge statue. I have
only
seen it on TV and pictures but not in person.

Can someone tell me if Siegessaule had always had a wreath and never a
sword?
From what I understand it was not damaged by the World War II.

I am posting this to sci.archaeology not that antiques are the science
of
archaeology but due to the fact that there is no newsgroup of sci.art
and there
should be.

I wonder if the beauty of Siegessaule is partly due to the Golden Mean
Ratio
and whether the artist incorporated that proportion in the statue of
Siegessaule.

And I post to alt.ascii-art wondering if any artist rendered
Siegessaule.

Too many people hype about the Brandenburg Gate, but from my impression
of Germany is that Siegessaule is Germany's single finest piece of
artwork, and
probably the finest single statue every crafted, and far better than
Michelangelo's
David.

So, can someone tell me if Siegessaule had always been this way of a
wreathe
and staff and never a sword? And what is the statue made out of? Was
there
ever any gold on her?
