It's a real shame that whoever posted the first pic of Princess Di had
to be greeted with the 'UGLY' comment by Veronica.
I had replied to that post directly..but for some reason...the post
was rejected. As if I care.
The point is...new people here will never be able to post things...no
matter if they are 'perfect' or 'up to peoples' standards' here..if that
will be the reply their work is met with. It's really sad.
That first pic of Princess Di had a lot of work behind it...and didn't
deserve the response it got. As if the person slamming it did totally
perfect ascii work from the day she started. Drek.
I liked BOTH pics. They each show a different style, and both were
quite nice.
I think that people here should think how new people trying to post
here with what may be their first art, or even one of many bits of work
will feel if they are slammed for their efforts.
I know that I decided NOT to post anything that I've done here. I
don't need the grief..as this is the 'expert' ng.
And I used to enjoy this ng too.....

It is rather ugly, and badly done. With messy attempts at art, either I tactfully don't reply at all or I point out at least some of what's wrong with it and how they might do better (I think the latter is important too), usually encouraging them to keep trying. But the comment "it's crap" or "why is there <XYZ fault>" is sometimes the most appropiate thing to say. _ (") -- __`__ ___________________________________________________________ < > "Hollywood celebs? they're either alcoholics, drug-addicts | or $cientologists!" : / \ _____________________Madonna Luisa Ciccione________________ / \ art by Al Tinsley.

When you use such a converter the result often sucks and needs lots of work before you can even see what it's supposed to be (I showed Kangaroo's picture to some friends, but I hid the part where it said who it was. The name of the second picture in that post showed at the bottom and my friends thought that the picture was of John Lennon, not Princess Diana. It didn't occur to them that that could be wrong...) > The point is...new people here will never be able to post things... There is no WORK behind it! It took a few seconds (most of which were spent waiting for the background image of that converter site to download into my browser). No, it means it wasn't WE who did it...) Those converters are useful as sketching tools, but the "raw" result from them most often don't deserve being called "drawings", they often need a lot of work before they start to look good (or even before they start to look like anything). > and didn't > deserve the response it got. Veronica can reply to this-- but I feel as though I must put my couple of cents in. I don't think that Veronica meant to 'slam' the original poster. I've seen Veronica (and others) write encouraging words to new posters to the NG. I'm sure she was referring to the image itself-- and not a personal dig. > That first pic of Princess Di had a lot of work behind it...and didn't >deserve the response it got. As if the person slamming it did totally >perfect ascii work from the day she started. Drek. I will have to disagree with your first sentence. The first pic of Princess Di is obviously a scanned image-- one obtained from using software. It doesn't take much work to run a pic through a program. Usually when a converter is used, people must "clean up" the final image. This pic didn't look "cleaned-up". > I know that I decided NOT to post anything that I've done here. I >don't need the grief..as this is the 'expert' ng. I hope that you do post your work on the NG-- it isn't an *expert* group-- we were all newbies at one time... I think that you will find that it is a very encouraging and supportive group (as long as you talk about ASCII art)...
