It's '1' up, '1' to the right = '1/1'. In Courier and C.-New they just look like a pile of J's and F's like Henry mentions. Maybe the serifs are distracting... They make one's eyes focus on the character instead of on the form. Or there's as much stress on the horizontal as on the vertical lines. Blabla... whatever... Does anyone know how to specify the font used inside PRE tags in html?
My page is in courier when I look at it, which is perhaps not the best
choice...it'd be far better in Monaco...

As I prefer fonts with exact the double hight to width (now using 8x16) the 1/2 is exaxtly 45 degrees. > and -height... per font... per system... Older browsers that don't understand CSS will still show it in the default
font, though. You could use <FONT> tags, but besides certain standards
compliancy issues they're also just plain ugly IMHO.
