OK very quickly.  When you save in your news reader there should be an option
for uudecode.  In tin the option for uudecode is uud.  However if you are not
working from tin or don't have this option just save the file as text, cut at
the dotted line, then run uudecode on the file.

Can anyone tell me where I might find a freeware/shareware version of
uuencode and uudecode for MS-DOS?

Another good uudecoder is called uuconvert.  It is a "smart" uudecoder.  It 
ignores any part of the file(s) that is not encoded.  If you name your files
"file1 file2 file3 file4 .... " (assuming you saved them in the right order)
and type "uuconvert file*"  it will convert them, no editing required.
Of course you could also save all of the parts into a single file in the
right order and it will smart decode it too.
(This is all in UNIX)
