hey, anybody out there have a little program that converts bitmaps to an
ANSI art format that uses the block characters and their background and
foreground colors to estimate the 256 color index of the pic. it does exist,
I used to use it, but have long since lost the little exe and memory of its
name. most likely a bmp2***.exe, or something of the like.

I've made png2ansi, available at http://www.saunalahti.fi/~wheany/

It converts png-images to colorful ansi.

I've been using Poster (POSTER12.ZIP) for a long time now, I find this to
be the best one I've ever used and stuck with it. It's freeware, can't go wrong
there, and a DOS program that works well in Windows. If you can't find it on
the web I can send it to you if you like, but you can search for the zip file
in YAHOO! and probably find it there somewhere.

The BBS Archives may have the exact program you are looking for, the link
is in my ASCII Zine in the link below.

i used to use "gifscii",
but it only does .gif format,
so you have to convert if the original isn't .gif
but graphic workshop 7.0e off simtel.net works fine
(except if it's photoshop 3 & up,
then you have to use "djpeg" also off simtel.net)

you need go32.exe along with it or it won't work.

i can email it uuencoded,
if you'd care to send me your email address i'll
send it along in a week or so.

it'll arrive in about 3 seperate emails if you do.

alternatively someone may still have it out there
on search engine, but get go32.exe along with it,
else it won't work.
