Hmm.. that's really a toughy. Stars are pretty hard to draw in ASCII
-- one of the hardest shapes there is.
I tried hundreds of times, and here's my best attempt:

     _____
cf / % \
   / #&% \
  |%%$#$%$##|
   \ #$^$& /
    \$___$/

Nowhere near perfect, but I think some tweaking could help. Any ideas?
I hope you find what you're looking for!

He's right. The star needs to be pointing down.

Uhm... no they're not.

Pentagrams are five pointed stars, when used in [insert variant spelling
of magic of your choice here] they're typically drawn within circles,
but then they're known as pentagrams-drawn-inside-a-circle.

And even if they're not, and I happen to be wrong (gee.. that could
never happen :) then just because I can't be bothered to draw the extra
bits around them.... doesn't mean that someone else won't..

pentagram inside a pentagon:
             _._
         _,-'/\ '-._
    _,.-' / \ `-.._
 .'________/____\________'.

  `: / ,-' '-. \ :
   :/,-' '-.\:
   `'-................-''

pentagram inside a circle:
             ____
        _,--' /\ `--._
    _,-' / \ `-._
  .'________/____\________'.
 : '-. / \ ,-'`:
: '-, / \ ,-' :
: /-. ,-\ :
: / '-,.-' \ :
: / ,-''-. \ :
 : / ,-' '-. \ :
  `. /,-' '-.\ .'
    `._ _,'
       `--.________,--'

Better now? :)

No... no it doesn't.

A pentagram's a pentagram whether it has one or two points at the top.

It's just that one way up it's symbolic of a man's body, and the other
way up it's a goat's head...

If you want the star the other way up and don't mind not being strictly
ascii, you could use the overscore character.. otherwise it'd be
difficult to flip and still look good..

You're welcome to try though.

Geee Corwin....

Why, since "Satanism" is a Christian derived "religion" and Pentagram and
pentacles are a symbol of Earth based spirituality that pre-date
Christianity. Satan exists only in the haliagraphy (Listing of Saints and
Demons) of Christianity, so you are in error if you are relating "satanism"
and "witchcraft symbolism".
By rejecting the "ideals of your local "Christian" neighbourhood, you are
actually strengthening the resolve of 'Fundementalist Christians" in the
USA, to outlaw and limit freedom of expression and of religion. So this
would make you a "Warrior of Christ", as you are helping them with their
political agenda. You are helping the Right Wing Christian movement in the
USA as surely as you would be if you were sending them money.

But then you may just be a "rebellious teen" trying to "impress" people
with your misinformation about any and all faiths and religion.
Just as a guess:
you are 16 years old thin white male
you dress in black
you are doing poorly in school
your parents are divorced
you live with your mother and her live-in boyfriend
you are a smoker
you and you friends made up a hit list after the Denver shooting

If you were a "serious" Diabolist, you would "shun" any pagan or occult
symbols, as most members of the Church of Satan think witchs/pagans and
occultists are weak and bothersome. You seem to have no idea of what you
are, but by even posting this you show you are not neither a Satanist nor a
pagan nor have you a solid understanding of anything occult.

Of course you did know the Anton LeVay, who wrote the Satanic Bible was a
Carnival worker and scam artist before he thought he could shock the
locals and make good coin doing it.

Yup, depending on if you are drawing down energy or building it up
2 at the top to draw it down, two at the bottom to build it up.

Nope you are both wrong.

This is a pentagrm, if it was inverted it would still be a pentagram
(gram) being a Greek word for "drawn or line", from the root "gramma".

Only if it was enclosed in a circle would it be a "pentacle".
This means a circle (same ending as cir"cle") with five (penta) points.

The points represent the 4 elements (air, water, earth & fire) and man.
A rightside up pentagram represents man over (or in control of if you
prefer) the elements (white magic). An inverted pentagram is the
elements over man (black magic).

Well from what I know of this symbol after dating a real witch for about a

I couldn't just ignore it.

I was taught that the 5th point was spiritual energy
if it was pointed up it was used in magical rites that
involved your god ,its "up" so its his/her energy you
are using. If the point is down (pointing to your center
of energy) the power you were calling on was more
worldly or your own energies that were guiding the
ritual.

I practiced "gray" magic so I guess that might explain
my point of view on it.
