bitmap to ascii, bmp2txt

While cleaning up old files, I found an old perl script I made
a couple of years ago, a .bmp to .txt converter.

The code is messy, but I had no problems making it into a cgi,
so anyone can now try it on

The script will have its permanent home there.
I may add more bells and whistles to it later, like a better 
contrast options, then maybe option for webified color text.

Script only accepts 256 color bitmaps, this will most likely
not change, since adding support for more file formats would
make me read up on that stuff.
And there's a cap, it will not accept pics larger than 128K.

I'll be very happy for comments, suggestions, error messages.

I've been playing with this for an hour, what fun!
I cropped my picture but it won't work right. It works better with the whole
picture.

I'm gonna read the help file again, I just want my head in ascii.

I think the algorithms for the conversion are better in Jave:
http://www.jave.de
But Jave does not support text file overlay like your Perl script does.

I just tested Jave, and I have to agree...
Some changes will be made to bmp2txt very soon,
first in contrast/brightness settings, which will 
improve it quite a bit, I think.

Anyway, within a month I hope to have html color text output.
I'll post an update.

Ermmm... Yup, that was me.
Now it's up to you to convert it to ASCII so that we all can enjoy it.

Where's this bmp2txt converter, PLEASE??? Sounds like just what I need!

The gif2asc one(s) I've looked at were too particular in GIF format they
wanted, and all of my attempts to create a GIF they'd read/use have failed! :(
