my first ascii art needs help...

Please find below my first attempt at ascii art. (It is my dog - a
Portuguese Water Dog.) I created it by fiddling with a different dog I
found.
I have put it in my signature, but people are telling me it comes out
distorted.
I think it may be due to the font they use for their mail readers -
what do you think, and is there any way around that?

It looks good to me, keep on going Derek. I don't think there is a way to prevent the distortion. It's has (like you already mentioned) everyting to do with the kind of font the other people use. --> It looks fine to me. Would need to be viewed with a porportional font,
of course - or the ASCII characters would become distorted - but that
is just common sense.
