Hmmm... I would do... if this Uni would let me finger other sites.

Ah well... better go a-begging, I think... Nurse...?

well, I've seen it. it's pretty strange, and I for one whould like to know
how he made a .plan accept input. but he could mail me. (hopeful grin)

anyone tell me why this group is dead?

Sorry, I seem to miss out on whats so wonderful here. All I see is a whole lot of junk flying up the
screen and a few words regarding ssfiit here and there. Are there
any special requirements? like should I be in X-windows of vt100 emulation or something?

I think it is vry cool, but I wan't to know how in the heck he did it. To
my knowledge, there isn't a way to make a .plan except input. there is a
way to make them use binary, but...

any help would be greatly appreciated.

the easy way to see how its done is just redirect the finger to a file...
ie: finger ssf...@eris.cs.umb.edu > coolfile. the trick he used is actually
very simple, not even VT100/102 codes. all he does is use CR instead of
newlines. still, a hell of a good piece of work.

What he did was replace the newline (octal 012) character on some of the lines
with the carriage return (octal 015) character. This causes the next line
to be drawn over top of the preceding line, instead of one line down.
The result is an image-updating effect. Since it doesn't use the escape
character, it can be viewed from a remote machine.
