You can assign a character to the left and right mouse button there. When using tools with the option "Character" selected in the options dialog, the character assigned to the mouse button will be used (for filling, lines, boxes, ellipses,...). Markus

click the fill tool, the default option for fill is Solid
preset (and user definable) left mouse button is X Right is Space
with solid set, click in the picture with the left mouse, and it
will be filled with whatever character you set it to, same goes for
the right mouse button.
left was the default X the right hand box I set the right button to Y

with the right fill set to space, it is sort of an undo for the left fill
