Yes,i have tried (invain)  back when Chapu wanted a spanish translation
for the faq.There is not any substitute for a human translator.Alta-vista's 
translator is usefull for getting the gist of some thing but,it ain't
no eighth wonder of the world.
 
here is what i typed ported to french:

une traduction espagnole pour le faq.There n'est pas
n'importe quel produit de remplacement pour un traducteur
humain de translator.Alta-vista's est usefull pour obtenir
le gist d'une certaine chose mais, il ain't aucune
huiti�me merveille du monde.

Not all that bad,but still it wouldnt work so well with
