Windows 9x and Windows ME is the Windows environment running on the Dos
operating system.  Dos will not be dead as long as there is someone who
wants to run it.

Dos != MS-Dos

The conversation is limited to MS-Dos only when "MS-Dos" is cited by name.
 There are a number of various Dos operating systems.  Dos is the generic
name for all of them.

You can dump the Windows 9x GUI, just edit one file in the root directory
of the boot disk changing GUI= option.  Then delete the windows and
Program Files directory trees, then the Windows GUI is history and you are
running MS-Dos 7.x.
