Oh lordie! What's going to happen? What's going on? Clearly, this is the
most complicated NB story arc so far. Let's see how long it lasts before
I pull a deus ex machina. Actually, it's quite fun following a thought-
out story arc, because it gives me some direction. I can concentrate more
on the strip itself when I know where in the story arc I am.

Side note: is there a reason that the bad guy in his cloke looks a lot like he is wearing the same cloke as Mr Gone from The Maxx? Main point rambleings: Working without a net is a dangousr thing. It tends to encurage the deus ex machina more than discurage it. I wish you luck. One problem I see. Shouldn't Fan Boy *and* NerdBoy be well enough versed in time travel to know that if OldNB comes back to warn NB that time travel is not an option that OldNB would have known the results of the situation before decideing to do it. But still decided to engage in the exorcise in futility in the first place? Thus NB and FB both being able to play the time travel game vis a vis Bill and Ted in the "Remind me to steal my dads keys and put them in that bush" kind of way by instead say something like "Remind me not to come and warn my self that time traval wont work". If OldNB was the real NB then OldNB would vanish in a paradox shift. But when he dosen't then it is clear that something went wrong so ether OldNB is not the real NB or some other thing is out of line. Just an idea. WOW that is convaluted. Well too late for a rewrite. Hope that makes since. The way that Terminator 1&2 should have gone: "I came from the future to protect you" "Well thats nice. You can leave now" "What?" Yes indeed, it's wonderful wonderful wonderful. Everything works beautifully. The dialogue flows well; there is enough motion in each frame to take away any static feeling. I really like Fanboy's sardonic comment in the second frame. And the final frame has a nice surprise ending. I don't see why you will have to use Deus ex Machina to pull yourself out of this one. Nerd Boy's brain must be ticking over about the fact that his future self has told him not to try to fix things. Clearly, if his future self is there to tell him then that means that... Well.. It was a looong time since I saw The Maxx, but my guess would be that I was trying to emulate that "flowing or maybe living?" style; I was actually thinking about Spawn when I drew that. > Main point rambleings: > Working without a net is a dangousr thing. It tends to encurage the > deus ex machina more than discurage it. I wish you luck. This time I kind of have a net; that's what I meant by "thought-out story arc". I just don't have all the details worked out, I do those as I go along. > One problem I see. Shouldn't Fan Boy *and* NerdBoy be well enough > versed in time travel I'll cut you off there because neither Fan Boy or Nerd Boy are very smart. They're not quick thinkers, anyway, and they are quite easily swayed. I actually noticed that when reading the old episodes. :) > to know that if OldNB comes back to warn NB that time travel is not an > option that OldNB would have known the results of the situation before > decideing to do it. But still decided to engage in the exorcise in > futility in the first place? "Exercise". And it all depends on your view on time travel. It can work in several different ways. You seem to be talking about the one where everything is predetermined, i.e. if I travel into the future and watch myself do something, I will do that when I reach that point in my life, no matter what. http://angryflower.com/timelo.gif However, it might be possible to change things. I might be able to go back in time and shoot myself. Several things could happen then, if there's such a thing as separation of subjective and objective reality. It might be just a weird way of committing suicide; the world would perceive it as me just falling down dead for unknown reasons while I would perceive it as me going back in time and killing someone who looks like me and then die myself in the exact same moment. Or the world could perceive it as me being murdered and I would myself remain unaffected. I could go back to the future and my friends wouldn't know who I was because I died years ago, or they could think it was some kind of miracle. In a third time travelling scenario, it could be impossible to change things simply because every time you attempt to travel through time, you just end up in a parallel dimension. Or maybe if you change something, you create a parallel dimension. This is arguably the same scenario as the second one, only a less ordered one in some ways. 8< > WOW that is convaluted.
