[req] DoomRL - ASCII Doom weapons for a roguelike game
alt.ascii-art
· 20 messages · 30 Nov 2005 - 14 Dec 2005
Hello all! I was directed here, that someone might help me. I need your help :-) I have a specific, lenghty, and probably quite demanding request. I seek someone who could make ASCII pictures of weapons (and maybe other items) from the computer game Doom. I need them for my roguelike game DoomRL (http://doom.chaosforge.org/). The requirements are: * must fit into half a DOS-screen (40x25) * must be coloured with 16 (DOS) colors, on a black background * technique as you like within the above limitations What can I offer for that? Not much unfortunately :-(. DoomRL is a freeware game. But it is more and more popular, so your art will not be unseen. Since the last version I had about 30-40.000 downloads (don't know exactly, cause somewhere my counter got reseted). I can offer your name on the credits screen and on the webpage, with full proper credit. Anyone here would want to help? Please? -- At your service, Kornel Kisielewicz (adminATchaosforge.org) [http://chaosforge.org] "Invalid thought detected. Close all mental processes and restart body."

ASCII is not colored. What you want is ANSI.

Here is a sample chainsaw that is angled to take advantage of as much of the 40x25 space as possible. I can't do the coloring since I don't know how to do DOS colors. As for DOS colors, I can give you the pallete info. As for how I code color it's something as simple as "@gThis @ris @bfun" which prints "This is fun", with 'This' being green, 'is' being red, and 'fun' being blue. That's a really messy thing to do ASCII art with, I know :-(. As for DoomRL -- then next version will be natively available for Linux systems. Up to date, Linux users have succesfully run it using DOSbox. > ___ > /.-.\ > //-. \\ > _/\ \ \ \\ > /\\ \ \-\ \\ > / \\ \ /\|| > | _\\ \ \ // > \ (_)\\ \/// > \ \\ /\^ > \ [=]|/ \^ > \ /// \^ > \|/\ \^ > V\ \^ > V\ \^ > V\ \^ > V\ \^ > V\ \^ > V\ \^ > V\ \^ > V\:F_P:\> > V\ |> > V`--'_\ > \/\/ > > > Is this what you are looking for? The smaller the images, the more I can do with them. If the images would be 70x20 I could put them only in a [m]ore description. It's best to use something like ACiDDraw to draw the pics and colour them with.

I > seek someone who could make ASCII pictures of weapons (and maybe other > items) from the computer game Doom. 70x25 is too long and too narrow to work properly. 60x11 seems to work as the best scale. Not too happy with the BFG and the pistol seems to be a hair large but I think the rest turned out all right. Coloring is not a priority for me but I will try to get it done this weekend. If something stops me from doing that then at least you have basic artwork. If you think anything needs changing because something doesn't look sufficantly like the original weapon let me know and I will redraw it. I was trying to stay as close to Doom style as possible but some of them like the Plasma Rifle just needed something extra. Not sure how Doom fans (even ones playing in ANSI) respond to things like that. What are the 'other items' that you might need? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Chainsaw __________ /.--------.\ ||________|| |---------\|^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^/. | () | /\ || O :F_P: O > | 0 | `\\||vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv\` '--------\\' ` --------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Shotgun _._____________________________._ ___________ _.-|___(___|_________________________| | `-' |_________\__||||||||] |:F_P: __ .-'\( / | __.--' `-' `-' |.--' --------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Super Shotgun _|\----._______________________n_ ___________ _.-|___(___|___..........|___________| | `-' |________/__|||||||||/ |:F_P: __ .-'\( /--' | __.--' `-' `-' |.--' --------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Pistol c-`-------------`_ < ( ____:F_P:_____] )/ |.----_______/ / \|\_(_| /--,'/ /--,'/ /--,'/ `---' --------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Chain Gun ____.------. ____ ./ \ \| |-----| \_____________________ /\ \ \ | X |.--. | |__||__||________||___| .\ \ \ \| :F_P:||OO| | |__||__||________||___| /\ \ \_)-| X ||OO| | |__||__||________||___| \ \ )`\ | |-----| | \ ) /`\ `------'\ \ `----' ' \ \ \ \ \ \ \/ `---' --------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Rocket Launcher _-__ ______.-' ---`------._.--.______________.-'|`-. | | `----------'_|__| -----------| | | |:F_P: | ______| | `| ______| | | | |------|________| |____________| | | `------.------'--------`-.-' `-`-`-`-' `-.|.-' | _____ _---' | ----/ _/ / | ----/ /__/ `----' --------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Plasma Rifle _________ /////_____\U. ________ ___ .-------/-=_\||}|-| |:|:|||-/-==|\--. / _-_-|___/||}| | |:|:||| |-=)))))=} / /|o-----|====||}|-| |:|:|||-\-==|/--' |/ / .----/\_.-/`-' `-------' `--' | :F_P:| ( | | ____/----' \_/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BFG 9000 .--------._ .-._/ _=\ //////\-.-------------.__ _./ O_\ \__ `-------| ==}=}=}=}=}=}| | ) | -=.-----.| --------------|_| | -----|= | |||||||| :F_P:=}=}=}=}=| | | - - - -|= | |||||||\---------------|_| `____ _|= ___\------' \\\\______/ |=| `--|=| ``` |=| |=| `-' |=| `-' --------------------------------------------------------------------- :F_P:#################################Thu Dec 1 2005################# -- .-')) fauxascii.com ('-. | It's a damn poor mind that ' ..- .:" ) ( ":. -..
