Thats the best ASCII stereogram I've seen by far. The size of the objects
makes it easy to distinguish the different layers, as does the contrasting
shade.

I thought that was a pretty good attempt - in fact I found that image a lot easier to "focus on" than most stereograms from books and the like. Perhaps it's because of the "2D or 3D?" text; that seems to make it easier to center one's eyes on the "same" image. Nice 3D effect. -- ___________________________________________________________________ | . . | * http://www2.southwind.net/~natedac/ * | | _ _ _|_ _ _| _ _ |-----------------------------------------| | |/ \`_| | /_)/ |`_|/ ` | GCS d- s++:++ a-- C++ UB>++ P+ L>++ !E | | | |(_| \_ \_ \_|(_|\__ | W++ N++ K- w--- M- V? And here, once again, is the posting which gives the lie to your

In the following posting you were clearly referring to Tweeter's
modified reposts and note that you say "...they become even more
enjoyable that way!" ( And there I DO agree with you. HeHeHe ).

In the mean time, my cartoons are being reposted without any effort
on my part, although these reposts have been modified with a
psychotic nuance ;-)) Perhaps they become even more enjoyable that way!

Is there no end to your continuing blatant falsehoods and
prevarications Mr. Casso? It seems not. Ho hum! <YAWN>
You have in fact waived any possible copyright claims you may ever
possibly have had by your own postings which I have already posted
in the last 2 days so I won't repeat them here and now (later if
necessary...and, regrettably, I'm sure it will be necessary.)
Heard anything from Tweeter yet in your emails?
Or from those snooper friends of yours who frequent the Mailing Lists?
Got that piece of paper for Ojo yet?

I think you are talking about a trademark, not a copyright. Many of the characters you are talking about are not copyrighted. The cartoons they apear in are but the characters themselves are trademarks of the various authors. You are also forgeting the self limiting nature of ascii art when you get down to the extreme small sizes. For instance, try drawing a circle with no more than 5 ascii characters (not including spaces.) You will find only a few ways of doing it and wouldn't be able to copyright it. You may be right on the uniqueness part but (again) I think you are talking about trademarks not copyrights. -- /)-._ | It may be better to be a live jackal than Y. Oh phooey... By your own definitions of copyright... - the actual diddles people make/have made of your work become those diddler's copyrights as soon as they compose and post their message. - Usenet rules allow reposting of any part of messages posted to newsgroups so your very own messages can be reposted during quoting and responses to those messages. I replied: ---------------------------------------------------------------- Please refrain from posting copyrighted Stein characters in this public channel in order to avoid any possibility of them being reposted or quoted by inexperienced and/or uninformed readers of this unmoderated newsgroup. It would also be very advisable to add a footnote to each of your cartoons, along with its Serial Number, indicating that it is copyright and should not be posted or reposted in a public channel. So...please...confine copyrighted Steins to your personal Website which is a private channel. Doing so will avert a lot of future misunderstandings and acrimony. ------------------------------------------------------------------ You ignored that response of mine but then went on in your later postings to authorise reposts, diddles and modifications of your copyrighted works. Since you are not the Moderator of this unmoderated newsgroup, alt.ascii-art, you have no jurisdiction over the group or any person who posts messages here, or over the contents of those messages. So your so-called ban on me as an individual is totally out of order. Your authorisations apply to every Net user. The rules you apply on your private Website or on a Usenet *.moderated newsgroup of which you are sole Moderator are a different matter. So...Mr. Casso please confine your rules and regulations to your own private Website because they have not place here in this newsgroup alt.ascii-art. Isn't there some need for profit from using a piece of copyrighted
material before it can be called a copyright violation?
One thing I do know about copyright law is that it would be impossible
for Mr. Casso to copyright the Stein characters. The cartoons mabye but
not the characters. Simply because the characters are too small and made
up of too few ASCII characters.

Exactly...you've changed your rules, regulations and requirements yet again and for the umpteenth time. Go away Mr. Casso, to your Private Website where you are entitled to write and apply whatever rules you like...but not here in this unmoderated newsgroup, alt.ascii-art. You have in fact never explained anything, at any time, with any credibility, veracity or reliability. All you have done is wriggle; prevaricate; play games; change your tune; post deliberate falsehoods about what you have written in past messages and when those measures failed, issued distorted newsgroup FAQs with forged signatures and stripped and renamed the authors on a whole list of pictures from different people - in fact you have done everything possible to disgrace and discredit yourself in this public unmoderated newsgroup. So this time, in these "Stein Wars", you went much too far in your excessive behaviour and activities and you are now reaping your just rewards for having done so. And you still continue to earn those just rewards - so they will be duly, and abundantly, bestowed upon you. Other users of this newsgroup, alt.ascii-art, have tried many times to reason and argue with you and have simply found it quite impossible to conduct or maintain any cogent discussions with you. I am not issuing _hate_ messages to you...rather, I am exposing (in the strongest possible terms in the hope that they will reach you...and I think they do) your continuing falsehoods with respect to your previous public postings and I will continue to do so as when it seems necessary. Now to get back to current specifics...your agreement with Tweeter's parodies... For the third time in 2 days let us examine your posting below: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Message-ID: <361...@sympatico.ca> From: Pete Casso <pet...@sympatico.ca> Newsgroups: alt.ascii-art Subject: Re: The 'steins - The Eulogy Date: Sun, 04 Oct 1998 23:14:53 GMT In the mean time, my cartoons are being reposted without any effort on my part, although these reposts have been modified with a psychotic nuance ;-)) Perhaps they become even more enjoyable that way! ------------------------------------------------------------------------- There can be no reasonable doubt that you are saying in that message that even though your cartoons ( allegedly copyrighted ) are being modified and reposted, that you consider those reposts are a good thing, viz " Perhaps they become even more enjoyable that way!" ^^^^ ^^^^ " although these reposts have been modified with a psychotic nuance" If that is not approval by you, then nothing is...unless it was a psychotic response of yours to some hilarious parodies which had many newsgroup readers giggling, because they were indeed finding them even more enyoyable than you found them. > I hope you save both of us a lot of trouble. I, and others, have hoped for a very long time that _YOU_ would save us all a lot of trouble but that is quite clearly not to be since you are way beyond reason for reasons that are beyond me...and others. Hopelessly,

But I would still get angry if anyone meliciously defaced them. I suppose I
am stating copyright, although up till now I have just assumed intelectual
copyright. My copyright requirements are much the same as Pete's... I don`t
mind people making up stories for the characters, so long as no insult or
'piss taking' is involved.

Martin,i think you are issuing a license for use of your "toons" here. You are saying "Copyright conditions" and "copyright requirements" but these things are standard.Your conditions for use are what would be called a license not "my fair copyright conditions".Hope you see what I am saying.I posted a long document here in the ng about Copyright, look it up,its got some nice links. Also,i might add,it is perfectly allright to make parodies of any copyrighted material, even if the owner of the copyright doesnt approve. So even your license doesnt protect you in any legal way from some one making a offensive diddle or parody of your "toons". Martin,Please dont take this personaly,i am hoping more people than just you will read this and understand what i am saying.I am just using your post as a nice place to inject this message. Also,Many posters here are yapping about "Copyright" without knowing the first thing about the subject. This is confusing to newbies and regulars alike. Here are some highlites about copyright that are relevant to recent events here in this ng.I suggest any readers look this up for themselves as well,to get a better understanding. 1.)any work of art is copyrighted when it is created, even if the author doesnot state so when he/she publishes it. 2.)a story line or subject matter maybe copyrighted. i.e. i cant write a new "Starwars" story with out getting permission from the original author of the original story. 3.)copyrighted material _may_ be republished without permissiom for educational purposes, and for other "fair use" purposes. 4.)Parodies of copyrighted material are legal to make.I can make up parodies of "Starwars" if i want and no one can do a damn thing about it.I can make a new "tie" fighter to add to the "tie" fighter ascii art collection and not fear any legal action, because they are parodies, not copyright infringements. 5.)Copyright issues are a continuing subject of confusion in this newsgroup and readers need to educate themselves about it.Posters here should read about copyright law b4 posting thier opinion about copyrights and confusing the real issues with myths. 6.) this _is_ a unmoderated newsgroup so take everything here with a grain of salt and and hope for the best. 7.)I am your god and you must send me money,or i will be poor. -- <`.THE PRINCE ,'> Copyright Krogg 1998 `.`/""""""\,',' SEE HIS ( / \ \' SEE HIS FACE \/<> <>\/ SMILE / W \ ,'\_|||||_/`. ,',' ||| `.`.kro...@gtcom.net <,' TIME TO DIE `.>Remove no.to.spam to reply

I have put in more than reasonable effort to explain this in no uncertain terms to you. I won't put more effort into explaining, I will treat posting of malicious defacings as copyright violations. If, as you claim, you have been a few years reading Usenet newsgroups you must know how...to some readers...the slightest little thing can be misinterpreted and seen as an insult when nothing was further from the "offending" poster's mind. Even a Smiley :-) can be insulting. Once you start to diddle other peoples' pictures, and use their characters, you immediately create the risk that someone (even if it is not the original author) will take offence. So who can define, unarguably, what is offensive and what is not? Tolerance of offensiveness is a very variable quantity. As I've said earlier, on the subject of diddling, early-days diddling was usually regarded as minor changes to a simple drawing to help a newcomer to Ascii Art to gain confidence in making their own totally original pictures. Nowadays diddling has tended to become a way of passing comment (pictorially) on some picture someone else has posted to make a point or express an opinion. So if you are going to post your pictures publicly in unmoderated newsgroups you have to be prepared for them to be used in all sorts of ways that you do not like. If you do not want things to happen to your pictures then you should try to confine them to a Private Website where you can impose control of their use or just don't post them publicly at all...especially ones you are extra-sensitive about. Example: This very next posting of yours _COULD_ offend Veronica ( not that I think it will ) but it demonstrates how subjective "offensiveness" can really be on the Net...and it is not confined to pictures but applies to text messages too. ==================================================================== From: zne...@ovtsbbg.pbz (Martin Atkins) Newsgroups: alt.ascii-art Subject: Re: REQ:Chip Date: Wed, 28 Oct 1998 10:06:37 GMT Message-ID: <363...@news.vossnet.net> .----- On Mon, 26 Oct 1998 12:07:17 +0100, Meph posted: | | ____________ | .|||||. / \ | ||||||||| ( A diddle:... ) | |||||| . \ | ____________/ _____________________ | |||||| -' _// /Don't talk with me...\ | ||||||| -| ( I'M DEAD !!! ) | ||||||| -' \_____________________/ | |.--' `--------------._ O | / ___________\____ O | / ( . ) ( . ).' / \ o | ( `-' `-'/ | . . | | \ ) . But sarcasm aside, I don't think there is a need for a re-write. It is consistent with the Copyright FAQ that we need to abide by law anyway. The Copyright FAQ does allow for the use of someone else's ascii art in their sig, as illustration somewhere, diddling, etc within certain common sense restrictions, providing copyright notice/initials are kept in the pic, etc in short, that's all formalized common sense, nothing more. ========================================================= [] .oo Visit the Gallery of the 'steins!
